I have been teaching for over 30 years and was Head of Textiles at Sponne School Towcester School in Northamptonshire for several years. I have been working with Milton Keynes Adult Education for 14 years, teaching machine sewing for beginners to improvers. The courses have been very successful and for me, rewarding as a teacher to see learners gain a new skill and the confidence in using their sewing machines. I also teach in local primary schools which is great getting the interest at an early age and they have been really excited to learn. I have a wealth of knowledge after initially studying Textiles at school, and then doing an honours degree in Fashion and Textiles at Bath. I also have an enhanced DBS certificate for teaching adults and children. I also hold a recent safeguarding in FE certificate and am up to date with the Working Together DfE 2015 document.
I love to inspire and help others get the joy out of learning to sew. I teach small workshops in my large conservatory at home in Caldecotte, Milton Keynes. It's a relaxed friendly atmosphere with a maximum of 4 to a group, I also offer one to one tuition for any ability. Refreshments are available and sewing machines if needed. Public transport (train and bus) is available close to the workshops.
As from September 2018 I am offering all of my day time adult courses from my workshop in Caldecotte, I also run children's machine-sewing workshops regularly on a Saturday morning, and run holiday sessions for adults and also children, please see times and days on the courses page.
Please let me know if there are any requests and enquire if interested in any of the classes, and look through my website or Facebook or Instagram pages. Learners have made a wide variety of items from bags, cushions, roman blinds, children's and adults clothes ..the list goes on!
As the guidelines on the Coronavirus outbreak change rapidly if people attending courses could please check the government guidelines before attending a session. At present they recommend to self isolate for 7 days if show signs of a high temperature or have a new, continuous dry cough. And as always there is a sink/soap etc available for regular hand washing. I want also to let you all know that I am using anti bac wipes on the sewing machines and surfaces as well as additional disinfecting and cleaning to help provide a little extra protection against the spread of germs. The wearing of masks is now required entering and leaving and if not able to keep 2metres apart. I am currently doing online lessons and have some kits, starting classes again hopefully May/June 2021 ... sending Covid risk assessment info so you are aware before coming to classes. Take care and contact if any questions also to book any online lessons or ask re kits. Please also contact if you would like to be added to my contact list for adult or children's classes.
